Tuneage: Rob Blackledge

20 10 2009

Another day, another newly discovered tune. Today I proudly present a dude named Rob Blackledge and his song “should’ve known better”. Its a nice, catchy, piano driven, up beat tune that is sure to invoke thoughts of Erich Hutchinson and Paolo Nutini. He’s got an interesting back  story, almost becoming a major league baseballer but instead going into music…yay! Anyway he seems pretty promising and he released his album about two months ago. I can’t find the song on youtube to be able to post on the blog, but click on the pic below and you can take a listen!!

Favorite Line: “a racing heart, a rising star, just about to make his mark
like nothing could go wrong”

If I Were a Kid: Cool Toy Car

20 10 2009

New type of post I will be adding to the bloggy every once in a while on the topic of “if I were a kid”. Meaning, what I would think/do/get a temper tantrum about if I were 12 or younger. So to start this off I bring you a video of the Air Hog, possibly the coolest toy car ever. You can drive it on any flat surface, which means up walls, on ceilings, your flat girlfriend, whatever whatever. I would love to say that this works by magic, and is actually the explanation I prefer, so I won’t ruin the secret that there is actually a fan in the car that allows it to drive on your walls.

Anyway, if I were a kid, hell if I even had rando money to spend now, I would totally buy this. However I doubt it will beat out the coolest nerf RC car I had that shot darts at people.

Tuneage: Danger Radio

15 10 2009

Danger Radio…..well this band came out with a new album in 2008 titled Used and Abused that I apparently had on my iTunes for a while, yet didn’t discover until randomly in August 2009. I’m not sure how this happened, but I’m grateful that it did because I was thoroughly surprised and have been able to enjoy their music since. Thus I bring to you the song that started it all for me, “Alive for the First Time”. Its catchy, different, and will generally pump you up. I like this band, they have seemingly been around since the mid 2000’s, yet I haven’t heard much of them before. So check it out!

Favorite Line: ” Burn’t by misconceptions, torn by lies and misbelief, holding strong as I seek intervention.”

Tuneage: Erik Hassle

15 10 2009

So this piece of tuneage comes from a guy who I guess did something he regrets. Luckily he manages to make a song about it that the ears will enjoy. Nothing too complex here, just a pretty good song that definitely has it’s moments. He could be going somewhere and I’m interested to see wherever that may be. Erik Hassle hails from the land of Sweden, a country which seems to be putting out a lot of solid artists lately. This song is called “Hurtful” and the video is below. I can’t get over how awkward he looks, but its alllll good.

Favorite Line: I can’t decide….its all kinda predictable, but it sounds great!

Also check out a remix of another one of his songs: Don’t Bring Flowers (Plug Remix)

Tuneage: Getting Up Early For The Generator

14 10 2009

Found this group the other day and this one song of theirs seems to be haunting me. Haunting me in a good way of course because its stuck in my head and I can’t stop playing it. More important though this song makes me feel good, and thats what good music is all about right. The band is called Freelance Whales and the song is “Generator First Floor”. They did indeed make a “Generator Second Floor” song, but in my opinion it is not as good, although still great in its own right. 1st floor may take a bit to start up, and by all means it is a simple little ditty, but the rhythm and melodies are all there. This song is soothing and good for those who start their day way too early in the morn (5:30 AM for me), and need to get their generator running. Have a listen and feel it out.

Favorite line: “We get up early just to start cranking the generator”

Funny things from Sarah Silverman. I think she’s on to something here….

Its October… time for March!

11 10 2009

Important things are going down today amidst the regular foozball and sunday fundays around the nation. Specifically the National Equality March is going down today in Washington, DC.

I’ve thought about this a great deal and I wish I could be there, I think that this is very important. Sadly people try to twist the meaning and the importance of this march by labeling the people marching as gay activists and such (thanks fox news). Simply these are people standing up for what is right in the world like so many people have done before. Thousands of people from all different places and yes, sexual orientations are marching and its about time people stand up for things they believe are right and just. This is about making things better for future generations and garnering understanding in matters that many will go out of their way to distort and ignore. Anyway, I say rock on and its far past time to do away with all this ridiculousness. I’m looking forward to somebody allowing me the right to marry, even though its absurd that in this day and age I have to look forward to that….holla.

Its been such a long time…I think I should be blogging. yeah.

10 10 2009

WELL Well well. Its been quite a while since I’ve made an effort to update this blog. Not like it matters to anyone, but I make it my personal October resolution to start anew. If you happen to be reading this and are a particularly keen individual, you may notice that the title of this blog comes from an amazing song known as “Foreplay” by Boston. This song and more I will present on my return to the internets for increased harmonic pleasure!

First up, the title track! Favorite line: “and time doesn’t wait for me, it just keeps rooooolliiiiiiiiiin” —how true.

Boston – Foreplay

Next, a song that I haven’t been able to stop listening too for the past few months. This song is “Love Lost” by The Temper Trap. They also have some other great tunes very much worth owning called “Sweet Disposition” and “Fader”. Favorite line of this song…. “I know its hard, But I can still hear it beating. So if you flash your heart, I won’t mistreat it.”

Love Lost – The Temper Trap

And lastly just a straight up good ol’ dancing mash up remix. This group called The Knocks have put out some pretty great stuff, and if you dig anything with great beats and some electronics, you will enjoy their music. This song is a mash up of The Counting Crows’ “Mr. Jones” and BEP’s “Boom Boom Pow”. Favorite line….”??????” i dunno, both these songs are pretty overplayed anyway, but they sound good together!

Affliction is a terrible umm…affliction?

5 01 2009

I consider myself to have a pretty great sense of style, and generally like to mix in some of the fashion trends with my own twist to maximize my looking good/current-ness and yet still be unique. However I must say that where fashion is going right now is kinda well….crappy. My case in point is that t-shirt brand AFFLICTION. These shirts are ugly. There is too much going on on them, they are pricey, and yet its a trend that has been pretty consistent this past year for men. I don’t understand it. The shirts really don’t look good, and have all that flashy metallic crap on them which is I guess used to catch a girls attention??? I just don’t understand why people buy these and think they look good. The problem is that now you are seeing a lot of t-shirts go this way and that frightens me for I do not want to have to live with watching people wear ugly clothes. If you happen to be an affliction liker/wearer… please reconsider. A great brand that you should look into that makes great “going out” shirts is 7 Diamonds. Do not support stupid trends! I’m looking at you scarf wearers!!!!

Tuneage: Moses Mayfield – Element

20 12 2008

I am making a return to my blog. Its been a mucho long time since I posted and that makes me all sad inside. I’ve been focusing a great deal on school and spending long hours at Border’s Cafe studying and meandering the sex books, but now I need a creative outlet.

Anyway, so for my comeback which I predict will be bigger than Brtiney Spears’, I bring you some new tuneage. No its not Britney because, to put things in perspective, she sucks balls and her music isn’t even music. But rather I bring you Moses Mayfield and the song ELEMENT. I kinda came upon this while studying and simultaneously Pandora-ing the other day and it just kinda speaks to me. Sadly this band broke up a while back in January of this year, and I can’t find there album anywhere online…if its not on itunes or in a torrent, then where do you buy it??? heh!

Anyway, take a listen. Favorite line “Said I don’t want to go, cuz it means I’d have to throw, this element of mine inside…”
