I consider myself to have a pretty great sense of style, and generally like to mix in some of the fashion trends with my own twist to maximize my looking good/current-ness and yet still be unique. However I must say that where fashion is going right now is kinda well….crappy. My case in point is that t-shirt brand AFFLICTION. These shirts are ugly. There is too much going on on them, they are pricey, and yet its a trend that has been pretty consistent this past year for men. I don’t understand it. The shirts really don’t look good, and have all that flashy metallic crap on them which is I guess used to catch a girls attention??? I just don’t understand why people buy these and think they look good. The problem is that now you are seeing a lot of t-shirts go this way and that frightens me for I do not want to have to live with watching people wear ugly clothes. If you happen to be an affliction liker/wearer… please reconsider. A great brand that you should look into that makes great “going out” shirts is 7 Diamonds. Do not support stupid trends! I’m looking at you scarf wearers!!!!
I am making a return to my blog. Its been a mucho long time since I posted and that makes me all sad inside. I’ve been focusing a great deal on school and spending long hours at Border’s Cafe studying and meandering the sex books, but now I need a creative outlet.
Anyway, so for my comeback which I predict will be bigger than Brtiney Spears’, I bring you some new tuneage. No its not Britney because, to put things in perspective, she sucks balls and her music isn’t even music. But rather I bring you Moses Mayfield and the song ELEMENT. I kinda came upon this while studying and simultaneously Pandora-ing the other day and it just kinda speaks to me. Sadly this band broke up a while back in January of this year, and I can’t find there album anywhere online…if its not on itunes or in a torrent, then where do you buy it??? heh!
Anyway, take a listen. Favorite line “Said I don’t want to go, cuz it means I’d have to throw, this element of mine inside…”
So I found this to be pretty cool. This student at Drexel University, Jessica Schiffman, took a picture using an electron microscope of a squid’s suckers. These things legit look like tiny little demon monsters straight out of your nightmares. If I were to imagine what the suckers on a squid looked like, I would not think this. So the next time you see or are attacked by a squid, know that you are actually being attacked by millions of little green, sharp toothed, goblins.
Yay I got my first comment today. Ha. Anyway, if you came to this blog looking for high quality writing…sorry. I guess I really could pay attention to grammar and correct punctuation and spelling and all, but I kinda just write this as I think of it. In a conversational way if you will. Maybe if I choose to write an actual essay or something I’ll change my mind…until then. Whatever.
Dreams are crazy, and my dreams are very very strange. Lately I feel like I’ve been dreaming a lot, and as always they mesh together the strangest thoughts and parts of my life. This dream that I had a few nights ago proceeded to do just that. It was basically about me traveling to a farm outside of Philadelphia with my brother and we came across this very large white tent, which was actually a house inside..who knew?! Anyway, I brought my laptop with me of course because obviously not being able to connect to the internet would be terrible. I must mention also that recently I despise my laptop. Its a Dell, about 4 years old, and infected with all sorts of viruses. So much so that my friends won’t come over because they are afraid they might catch something. My computer is falling apart, I hate it and I can’t wait much longer for the new macs….
Back to the dream. So yeah, I brought this extremely long ethernet cord with me, for apparently the tent did not have wireless, and also I always bring an ethernet cord with me everywhere I go. It can serve many functions, mostly ones that involve tying something, like a person to a chair, or a nice nuse, for decorative purposes of course. So my brother and I go searching for the ethernet port, find it and plug in my pooter to the interweb. All is not well though for suddenly the thernet cord and my computer become living things and begin to chase and attack my brother and I. We quickly find a place to hide, and just in time too the Dell begins to start smoking. The ethernet cord begins to grab hold of everything in the room around it…we peak in the room to see whats going on and then..BOOM! Gigantic firey explosion that me and my brother barely escape by jumping away from it in slow motion, action movie style. We go back to find the computer quivering..barely alive…and like a good samaritan, we put it out of its misery. Of course by using baseball batts and singing “We didn’t start the fire” by Billy Joel.
That’s it more or less….I can’t wait for the new macbooks.
So today’s Tuneage comes out of anger. I’m not actually angry at something, but actually just angry at my stupidity in trusting itunes to suggest music and then play the worst 30 seconds of a song possible. Actually, I shouldn’t be blaming itunes for only playing 30 seconds of a song, rather I should blame myself for not going out of the way to listen to the whole thing. This does have a point I promise….The Kings of Leon have been around for a solid 5 or so years. I have come across them many times throughout my long and tedious quest for new music all the time, yet I believe I previewed one of their songs, didn’t really take to it I guess, then also confused them with another band I know I don’t like, and then never looked back. WOW, WHAT A AWFUL TERRIBLE MISTAKE. I was watching SNL last night (how I even was able to sit through it all I have no idea, show is weaksauce) and unbeknownkst to me, Kings of Leon was the band and they were playing. It literally took me a minute to be hooked and realize my mistake in passing them off so many times before off of one 30 second listen, clearly all I needed was 30 seconds more. I should really know better, you cannot get the full effect of a song from just 30 seconds and I know that, but I guess I let the band pass me by. To think that I could have been listening to them for the past 5 years of my life pisses me off. But I guess I gotta look on the bright side which is that now I have all this great new music to listen to, which I love.
Anyway, yeah the Kings of Leon. They are releasing a new cd this tuesday (Sept 23, 2008), which I have already gotten a hold of via some ultra super seceret resources…and its great. If you are a fan of original, interesting, real music that comes from real artists who actually sound great and are just a genuine pleasure to listen to, then download their music. Lyrically the stuff is great, melodically its great, and just musically in general the stuff is great. I love finding artists that truly can make me feel something and actually make me believe that there really is great music out there besides all the crap that is played on the radio. Give them a listen.
This is one of the songs off of their new album called “Use Somebody”. Very relatable song, and it just sounds good. This video is a live version of it…but it doesn’t matter cuz they sound even better live than on the actual album. Favorite lines…”Off in the night, while you live it up, I’m off to sleep. Waging wars to shape the poet and the beat.”
Heres to never judging something in 30 seconds again, from now on…make it at least 60.
A little nostalgia for you all. Does anybody remember the 90’s board/action game Crossfire? It had that crazy catchy commercial telling you that “you’ll get caught up in the…CROSSFYAR!” I strangely thought of this game after thinking about how my friend had his digital clock shat on this time last year (long and hilarious story), and for some reason thought of the story in song in my head. Something which I seem to do a lot. Any I replaced the word Crossfire with Clock$h!tter and thus it got me to thinking about this awesome game I played while young. I’m assuming many of us kids of the late 80’s played this game, along with other similar classics such as Hungry Hungry Hippos and Mouse Trap. I forget the fine details, but the game was for two players, and each would shoot little metal balls at this moving rolling target on the board to get it into the other persons goal. Twas a fun little game. Until it got out of control and all the metal balls went flying everywhere. Games never ended happily when i was younger….
Alright I’ve come up with a new type of segment which I hope to add upon ass the future unfolds. I will swap between Why Australia and Why New Zealand are the most awesomest coolest countries on this planet. If you have never been…go now. If the world is actually getting warmer like people claim, now is the perfect time to go while they still have all the natural, amazing, beautiful things to offer there. Ahhhh, I love those places.
So todays awesomeness comes from Australia. Apparently scientists just discovered 500 new species in the coral reef off the coast of Australia….FIVE HUNDERED!!! Thats just wild. The coral reef is an insane place and the fact that we are still discovering vast amounts of life there is amazing. I was for scuba there about a year and a half ago and got to see the most incredible things. Rediuclously colored neon fish, I found Nemo in a sea anemnone, and I also swam next to a ten foot long sea turtle for a good ten minutes. The place is absurd. Sadly the reef is dying though, so GO NOW. Or help save the reef, I dunno how, but just do it.
I love the land of Oz, send me back now. I think I’ll open up a paypal account for a “Send me back to Australia fund”.
Its a lot easier to find Nemo than Disney leads us to believe.
Some more tuneage for ya…I’m not all about the brand new music all the time. I think its great to discover artists and songs that go under the radar that no one really knows about. Here is one of those bands/songs. The song, Sunrise, the band, Yeasayer. I’ve listened to most of their album, I wouldn’t say its exactly my type of music, if I even have a type, but this song is just really interesting. Its got a great beat, and an interesting and new sound. Its really kind of a trippy song, I guess about living life. I’d love to do a remix and rap over it if I ever could. My favorite lines come right at the beginning “It all started with a stumble
And I get old and I get humble” they just makes sense. Anyway, give it a listen.
